What Is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that affects how your body converts food into energy. Normally, your body produces insulin, a hormone that helps move glucose (blood sugar) from your bloodstream into your cells for energy.
When your body doesn’t produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively, glucose builds up in the bloodstream instead of being used by the body’s cells. Over time, high blood sugar levels can damage your heart, kidneys, eyes, nerves, and blood vessels if left untreated.
At FIT Health Care Clinic, we focus on early diagnosis, individualized treatment, and ongoing support to help patients successfully manage diabetes and enjoy healthier lives.
Know the Different Types of Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the body's immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. People with Type 1 diabetes require daily insulin therapy to regulate blood sugar levels.
Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes and occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or does not produce enough insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels.
Gestational Diabetes
Gestational Diabetes develops during pregnancy and usually disappears after childbirth. However, women who experience gestational diabetes have a higher risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes later in life.
